NYC Sierra Club Beyond Coal

NYC Sierra Club forum on Coal Plant Bailouts.  Introduced by NYC Sierra Club organizer Dan Sherrell, followed by Irene Weiser, Fossil Free Tompkins, on the bailout of the Cayuga Power Plant; Diana Strablow, Clean Air Coalition, on the Huntley coal plant in Tonowanda and their community building efforts and push for a just transition; Matt Ryan, executive director of Align - a blue-green coalition in NYC, and Arron Mair, the new president of Sierra Club's board of directors.  Arron gave a sweeping and impassioned talk about environmental justice, global warming and the need for equality, collaboration and change.

Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton gives a powerful speech at the Fossil Free Tompkins Rally about the need to stop reliance on fossil fuels.  She tells about her end of session letter, signed by 70 Democratic colleagues, calling on Governor Cuomo to stop bailing out fossil fuel power plants and instead provide transition support to the communities where those plants reside.
